I haven’t even wiped the sweat from my brow from the summer heat, when j.crew quickly unveils its Pre-Fall Ready to Wear sneak peak. Hey, I’m looking forward to the fall too, but it’s hard to think about sweaters and coats when the temps are rising in the 100 digits. But besides that, I LOVE getting inspiration and trends for the up-coming seasons and j.crew doesn’t disappoint. I mentioned in some of my most recent posts here and here, that I’m having an obsession with camo prints. Sometimes I get these intuitive promptings about what will be trending in the coming seasons. I call it a gift or a curse depending on the budget that I have to spend, but I’m all in, j.crew. Fashion trends tend to dictate whatever kind of world we are currently living in. With political unrest, girl power (feminism), high tech evolving at an alarming rate, and Instagram documenting every moment, fashion is telling the story along the way and J.crew’s collection has something to say in today’s world climate. I’m a big fan of how j.crew can take a simple denim shirt and glam it way up with the right accessories.
In my j.crew Pre-Fall Ready to Wear 2017 top picks, I’m drooling over mixing camo with leopard, lace, velvet, plaid, or tulle. Other notable favorites in the collection are the Scottish plaid off-the-shoulder top with the camo clutch bag, the fabulous gray sweater with the asymmetrical black ruffle (pictured at the top of this post), all the flirty tulle hems, metallic shoes, and velvet jackets and bags in deep rich bright colors, J.crew is pushing a fantastic optimism and I’m buying it (All pictures courtesy of j.crew). I’ve separated the collection into four categories: (Camo Love), (Leopard * Velvet * Tulle), (A Blue Moment), (Rugby Stripes and Scottish Plaid Prints), and (Orangey Red, Gray, Black & White). None of these items are available yet, but j.crew has some fantastic summer items available (UPDATE: I added some Fall items to the Boutique Gallery, since everything had sold out from summer) now that I just have to share, because that’s how I roll. Read on to see what I really thought of the collection. Let the drooling begin . . .
This pic should be j.crew’s anthem for their Fall catalogue. She looks like she’s going to a patriotic elite private fashion school for the well-dressed, with her effortless style. Love the mix of textures and prints. Whoever this girl is, I would salute her on her way to class. One question, where’s her beret?
Velvet and camo print, I’m digging it, enthusiastically. It’s crazy how they can mix blue stripes and those shoes with those chic camo slacks, but it works.
The military vibe continues, but is softened with lace. LOVING that cropped jacket with patches and ribbons of honor on the pocket. The contrast print on the pants pocket is a nice touch, too.
If you don’t want to commit to large amounts of camo print covering your body, then adding just a touch as a patch can get the point across. Here they combined plaid and sequence in the mix, and the lovely white ruffle top adds to the overall look. Looks like ruffles continue to trend into the fall.
Adding a bright pop of lace gives a strong feminine edge to the fantastic low-slung camo print pants. Camo prints add a great neutral background to bold colors and j.crew does that flawlessly. And those pink metallic flats are divine. Metallic accessories are still trending hard into the fall/winter season.
Leopard * Velvet * Tulle
Ok. Lets be honest, leopard print is timeless, isn’t going anywhere, and should be in heavy rotation in any fall/winter wardrobe. This coat is a dream. A big huge wishlist kind of dream. J.crew has been pointing out for a few seasons that pajama tops in chic prints are highly acceptable to wear from bed to dinner, or back to bed in a matter of moments. Also, word on the street is that small floral print is a future trend for this fall/winter. An ethereal tulle skirt and delicate plaid mules is having a 50’s or 60’s moment, but in a good way.
Yellow gold velvet looks to be a great over-jacket to layer over lighter jackets. Again, hard and soft textures, adding military wide-leg cargo pants and bright accessories adds an interesting mix. My eye is drawn to the lush gold velvet jacket and then is intrigued by the matching gold pumps – compelling me to really look at the outfit from head to toe. Love the bold sequin clutch bag.
Echoing the metallic trend (those pumps look mighty fine), this finely made wool jacket speaks to me in this almost metallic-like bronze color. Rugby stripes in mustard, plaid scarf and a balloon midi are screaming, “Take Me NOW, with the jacket!”
Why does j.crew have to tempt me with bright bold accessories, like this fur wrap?! This lilac herringbone jacket is a keeper when combined with a soft sweater (in the same color family), a shiny metallic appropriate hem length skirt, and eye-catching metallic ankle-wrapped open-toe pumps. Metallic pieces are the neutrals of the up-coming season.
Tulle skirts are shaping up to be a much-needed item to rotate into your wardrobe and it doesn’t have to be too dressy when combined with more common pieces, such as this over-sized slouchy sweater and sequined Mary- Janes. Oh, I just want to grab that clutch from that girl right now and run to my car for a fast get-away.
A Blue Moment
In my j.crew Pre-Fall Ready to Wear 2017 fantasy dress list, denim is always a good thing at j.crew. Again, camo print makes a minor appearance on the pocket of this stream-lined denim jacket. Teal metallic booties are jazzing this look up along with the stripe tassel clutch. You can coordinate your look with your kid, with the crewcuts line at j.crew.
Balloon Midi Skirts are being forecasted to be hitting the streets in Fall/Winter 2017 over on Pinterest and I think I’m on board, at least with the easy drape that j.crew has created in the pic above. Balloon skirts are tricky if too much fabric is used, and you end up looking, quite literally, like a balloon. Loving that comfy blue snow ski sweater and yet again, neutral metallic ankle-wrapped open-toe pumps completing the look.
Blue from head to toe is always a good idea, except add in some metallic gold and blue for your pumps and I would be smiling like the model from ear to ear, too. How darling is that moon and stars cardigan?! Anthropologie needs to take a hint from j.crew, and start adding some buttons back onto their cardigans. It gets drafty in the winter, sometimes fall, Anthro. I also think this cardigan would also look great over denim overalls.
Sign me up now, to get my hands on that blue faux fur coat! I would wrap myself up in that number, and never let go. That striped tie-top doesn’t look too shabby either, and ripped jeans and brown tassel loafers combine to make a chic preppy’s dream.
Rugby Stripes & Scottish Plaid Prints
Another bold move by j.crew is mixing over-the-top pieces with casual basics. And hey, I’m all for “doing your thang”, but I’m not sure I’m quite on-board. For amusement purposes, I’ll roll with it, and I applaud experimentation when it comes to taking fashion risks. And hey, maybe this look would get me in the front of the line at the grocery store. Besides the pause in enthusiasm, I’m LOVING the plaid pumps.
A long coat is in order for fall/winter dressing and j.crew are Masters at making well-made pieces – it’s always a rewarding investment. Other items I’m swooning over, is that leopard clutch (must have, NOW), the chic rugby stripe top, those comfy neutral gray joggers with stripe hems, and the easy preppy brown loafers.
A Chanel-esque ruffle cropped Jacket is in-order for any fall/winter wardrobe, and with pant waist-lines rising, cropped jackets are the way to go. This one is unique in its execution, providing striped ruffles in just the right places. There’s that damn fine leopard print clutch again. The wide-legs are trying to deflate, or at least I’m trying to get them to, in my mind. It can’t decide if it wants to be a maxi or not, or in another fabric choice. The side-tucked shirt is new to me.
Love the romanticism of the striped off-the-shoulder bow top and the borrow from the boys chino pant – adding in the modern mary janes sweetens the look. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a modern 1930’s vibe.
Christmas has come early at j.crew, with their Scottish plaid print off-the-shoulder top, complete with bow and tight-wrist sleeves. Swoon-worthy is correct, and j.crew is schooling me on adding a camo print clutch to said outfit. Well done, j.crew, well done!
Our Scottish Plaid print journey continues with this ruffled, twisty hi-low skirt with a little leg peeking through. Me thinks the model is having to hold her hands out to make room for the width of the skirt. The waist is a tad wide and more personal inspection is necessary to get an accurate depiction of the top of the skirt. In the meantime, I’m crushing hard on those sequin flats.
Again, the patriotic private fashion school classes are back in session – she looks like one of the instuctors. Polka-dot tulle is mashed up with a Scottish plaid over-lay, complete with an adjustable brown buckle. Add in a cropped camo button-down shirt with velvet collar, a short color-blocked cross-body and dramatic pointed-toe ankle wrap pumps and you have one hell of an outfit. Whew, just describing it wore me out, but I’m getting a Chic Celtic Vibe, minus the sunglasses.
Orangey Red, Gray, Black & White
Being monochromatic with your wardrobes color choices has its advantages. First, it takes the guess work out of getting ready, and 2nd, it elongates the body and makes you appear longer and leaner. This orangey red makes a bold statement and those printed pumps modernizes the look.
Can anyone pull off these ginormous wide-leg pants? Even Sandra Bernhard is struggling with it. Again, they need further inspection from me, the top pictured isn’t too bad on its own, if you like tops that appear to be put on backwards.
Loving this fun and flirty Ski Sweater Tunic with a polka-dot lace hem (can’t tell if it’s attached) – what a cutie, this is. And those bow ankle-wrap plaid back pumps are flirty on their own – I feel them winking at me, like the girl is. Adding the Pea-Coat just throws it over the top for me – love.
Hearts are in fine order in j.crew’s pre-fall line up. What a delight this skirt is, and adding a sequin belt and an off-the-shoulder, soothing gray (looks to me cashmere or wool) sweater, has me chasing down the people in charge at j.crew to get me on the “Gift it to Me” list. I may have just found my go-to Valentine’s day outfit for years to come.
I’m a little confused, since I don’t have the official description of these items, but this looks like a cutesy Polka-Dot Ruffle Sheer Lingerie piece overlaying a long white buttondown. While I love the lingerie as outerwear trend, I’m not sure I could wear this look out, at least not over the buttondown. Maybe, experimenting with this item over a sleek black slip dress or over an item closer to the body with a belt. But I’m sure any stick thin model could carry this look off, and if you can, kudos to you for being creative enough to do it.
This looks like the current creative director of j.crew – what a chic and refined gray dress, or two piece. The Polka-dot pleated tulle is really glamming up that sleek gray dress (or two piece). I LOVE those stripe pumps and crushing hard on her bracelet. If that piece is available with the Fall roll-out accessories, I’ll be the first in line to get it.
And now we come to the drool-worthy part of the collection. I love everything about this look – sleek, refined, under-stated, timeless, and utterly satisfying. THOSE shoes are wrapping up this j.crew Pre-Fall Ready to Wear 2017 collection in a giant BIG BOW. >Grabby Hands at those Shoes<
That wraps up the fall/winter collection sneak peek. But, I just had to share some of my top picks for the summer (UPDATE: and Fall) still available at j.crew. Among the items, I’m loving, are the Ikat Ankle-Wrap Sandals, all the beautiful prints inspired by Vintage Postcards, and the Ikat Printed Shirt (seriously considering). Apparently, I need more Ikat prints in my life.
If I was in need of a fantastic denim jacket, the Cropped Denim Jacket in the Cavanal Wash would be my first choice, and those ripped deconstructed wash jeans in Japanese cotton are calling my name, too (pictured with this top and these similar red heels).
I’m so glad that ruffles are still going strong for the summer, and even the early fall season, and adding these Stripe Shorts freshens up the look for me. The Ruffle Top in Chambray is one of those tops I would be choosing again and again.
Another Top that has perked my interest is the Ikat Print Perfect Shirt – you can never have too much Ikat print. This subtle shade of bright periwinkle on precisely placed darts looks tailored and polished, and oh so comfortable. Me wants.
This Pineapple Print Linen Blazer is da bomb. Besides the adorable print and light-weight fabric is by Ratti, one of the leading producers of fabric for womenswear, furnishing and accessories, located in Como, Italy. J.crew mentioned they discovered this painted pineapple motif in their archives (they are all about fruit prints right now, and sprinkled the print onto items throughout their summer collection, like this customer-favorite blazer (pictured with this tank and this jean short).
I’m so obsessed with j.crew’s current fun summer prints inspired by vintage postcards – who wouldn’t be. According to j.crew, “This colorful pattern was inspired by vintage postcards of Andalusia, a region in the South of Spain known for its natural beauty.” Loving the A-line Button-Up skirt in Postcard Print with this top and these Sandals.
Love how the colorful print is added in a subtle way to this boy meets girl muscle tank. The Bow-Shoulder Top in Postcard Print is fun and with just the right amount of color from the print.
Like with Embroidery, Eyelet is the next best thing to wear during the summer season. J.crew’s Pull-on Short with Floral Embroidery looks so damn comfortable and equally eye-catching – loving the navy white colorway, as well (pictured with this blazer and this shirt).
I had to add a least one Tippi sweater to my top j.crew summer picks list and the Embroidered Palm Tree Tippi Sweater made the cut, hands down. This sweater is screaming, “I Love Summer!” in its 100% merino wool, vibrant flame color, and eye-catching embroidered print – making me want to wear it year round.
And speaking of eyelet, the Chambray Ruffle Shoulder Sheath Dress is the perfect go-to for the summer months. I was delighted to see that it comes in 3 different lengths, Regular, Petite, and Tall – how awesome is that.
And because I NEED more Ikat print in my life (and why-not add green pom poms, as well), the Ikat Ankle Wrap Sandals will be mine or I will have to make my own, which I would rather not do. But, Seriously how fantastic are these sandals with the freak’in green poms on the ankle-wrap?! I love you j.crew for making these shoes.
Rounding out my top j.crew summer pick list is the Stripe Straw Clutch Bag. A fantastic vibrant stripe clutch to add to any summer wardrobe choice – it should be added to the No Brainer list on j.crews site. Love it!
