When it comes to warm weather, there’s an anything-goes kind of mind-set in dressing that kicks in. A time when spring and summer allow a newfound freedom when picking items to wear, and with higher skirts, cropped pants, and shorts, shoes begin to take center stage. Sandals, specifically are the power-houses, and they really do earn their keep once the weather warms up. And remember, the best accessories are the ones you never take off. The right ones add an instant dose of style, and should always look good coming and going. So with this in mind, I compiled 5 Current Shoe Trends to Wear Right Now; from embroidered, to metallic, to lace up/ankle wraps and to velvet, there’s a lot of exciting choices to wear right now and a few to wear year round. Exciting choices ahead . . .
N. \ ‘an-kel ‘strap \
a single or multiple strap attached to a shoe to hold it on the foot or having a purely ornamental function and passing either above the instep near the arch or around the ankle
Ankle Wraps and Lace-Up shoes take inspiration from ballerinas, Greek goddesses, Victorian bodices and corsets, and even sneaker ties. There’s such a femininity about how it showcases the foot and leg, drawing the eye upward. In the 5 Current Shoe Trends to Wear Right Now, this particular trend is everywhere and makes anything worn with it look extra special.
Ballet-flats have an under-stated cool about them and when adding an ankle wrap, you can get in touch with your inner ballerina in style. The Degas Ballet Flat from Free People in gold or black (at the top of this post), does just that, and makes anything worn with them extra-stylish. (Pictured with the Audrey Shearling Clutch from Free People (sold out).
As far as Greek Goddesses go, look no further than the on trend Sheri Sandal by Sam Edelman; an ankle wrap fit for a goddess.
I never thought a d’orsay flat could look so good when adding an ankle wrap and stylish pointed toe, chic looking day or night. The Arielle d’orsay Flat by Madewell is so versatile; dress it down with jeans and shorts, or up with dresses, skirts, or crops.
The Geo Plains Sandal from Free People looks like the perfect strappy leather ankle wrap to pair with just about anything. Free People in collaboration with Faryl Robin have made this sandal extra special; the unique finish is a result of a hand applied, stone tumbled process, so every pair is slightly different. The stone tumble will fade with wear making it look like your favorite worn pair of jeans you’ve had for years.
Island girl comes to mind when I’m looking at the Hemingway Wrap Sandal by Free People. The best of both worlds, with lace-up leather and rope ties; island or mainland ready.
For a more dressy ankle wrap option, the Sparkler Wrap Mule by Free People is a great pick. Featuring a statement glitter block heel and party ready round toe; the grey “goes with everything” colorway, making it an easy choice when deciding what to wear.
When it comes to lace-ups, my current favorite hands down is the Minimal Lace Up Heel by Jeffrey Campbell. This distressed leather open-toe lace-up heel, (with an open in the back of the heel, too) comes in 10 delicious colors to choose from. In my 5 Current Shoe Trends to Wear Right Now, this is the one I’d want in every color to wear year round.
The Deleece Lace-Up Sandal by Sam Edelman in the nautical blue suede color is so refreshing at first sight. Love the comfy low wedge, peekaboo sides and on trend lace-ups, making it a stand-out in any outing, (shown with the Anders Stripe Kimono by Equipment).
An interesting take on a lace-up is the Serena Wedge from Free People; beautiful laser cut leather wedges with an open toe, adjustable lace-up detailing, and a stack wedge; guaranteed to get you noticed.
A perfect example of a bodice or corset influence is the Top Down Block Heel by Free People. Combining two fantastic trends of the season, velvet with a chunky floral block heel and lace-ups, it makes for a show-stopping ultra cool choice.

to ornament with needlework, to form with needlework, to make embroidery
In my other post on the Embroidery Trend, I explained how embroidery elevates any piece it adorns, making it timeless and special, and that’s no different when it comes to accessories. In my 5 Current Shoe Trends to Wear Right Now, Embroidery or Embellished is the go to trend to invest in; an investment your closet will thank you for down the road.
Take the beauty that is the Sam Edelman Embroidered Carrin Espadrilles; it combines elegance and simplicity with its beautiful design and vibrant colors, using the best of a combined trend of embroidery and espadrilles, makes it a piece I would invest in.

The Uxibal Trenza Sandals have a South American kind of vibe due to its creators collaboration with women artisans in Guademala, making this hand crafted embroidered piece extra special.
For a more subtle example of embroidery, the Ugg Ansley Embroidery moccasin is the way to go. I constantly wear my Uggs anytime I want to warm up my feet, and this moccasin is perfect all year round for that. Just enough of a touch of embroidery to get the job done.
The Reena Embroidered Sandal by Topshop is all about the embroidery. Eye-catching in every way, and combines with the ankle wrap trend to perfection.
The Soludos Embroidered Slide Sandal is an earthy mix of swingy tassels and embroidery of red and black on a neutal backdrop. Featuring a braided leather toe strap and easy slide access; festive as it is fun.

a sandal usually having a fabric upper and a flexible sole
Whenever I think of warm weather or the beach, the first shoe that comes to mind other than a sandal, would be an espadrille. In my 5 Current Shoe Trends to Wear Right Now, the Espadrille makes the case of being the quintessential shoe choice of the summer and looks great with everything from summer dresses, cut-off shorts, skirts, you name it. There’s a type of espadrille for everyone, including classic slip-ons, wedges, gladiators, and even a sneaker. A must have shoe for the summer.

resembling metal: such as having iridescent and reflective properties
Of the 5 Current Shoe Trends to Wear Right Now, Metallic would be the most luxe, resembling colors of white gold, silver, and bronze. You almost just want to reach out and touch this trend and claim it as your own. I think the bright sun’s rays reflecting off anything during the summer reminds us of metallic, and we get to capture it in a shoe.
First up is the must-have anytime of the year shoe, the Arizona Soft Footbed Sandal by Birkenstock. This season exploded with vibrant metallic colorways to choose from by Birkenstock. Top of my wishlist for sure.
If mules are your thing, a great metallic option would be the Bakersfield Mule by Free People in the elegant looking bronze colorway; a Spanish made leather mule featuring colored metal stud detailing.

The perfect metallic distressed summer sandal would be the Crowe Distressed Sandal by Free People. The worn in look is said to get better with age and with two fantastic metallic colors to choose from (gold or purple), this one would be a no brainer to choose in a metallic sandal.
